I’m Alexandra, a Donegal-trained handweaver and Irish Crochet Lacemaker from Co. Roscommon. I work from Bramble Studio, a little creative space within my home.
I’ve always loved making things with my hands. Some of my earliest memories are of learning to weave, knit and paint as a child, and that love of making has stayed with me ever since. Over the years, my practice has grown to include Irish crochet, needlework and watercolour, before bringing me back to weaving.
I studied weaving under Master Weaver John Heena in Donegal, learning to weave on traditional single- and double-width Donegal floor looms. I now weave from home on my vintage Inca Leclerc Counter Balance Loom while continuing to explore tapestry.
These days, you’ll usually find me weaving, painting or making something in the studio. I enjoy working slowly by hand and making things with care, drawing inspiration from home, the natural world and the ordinary details of everyday life.
